OBJECTIVES
During the course, the devices and characteristics of a long-distance transmission network based on optical fibre will be presented. The content ranges from basic aspects such as guided light propagation and the characteristics of optical fibres, to specific hardware and software solutions to be adopted as needed. The technologies, critical issues and the solutions adopted in optical devices are therefore analysed. Particular attention is paid to architectures and new generation equipment used in Optical Transport Network (OTN) and to the ASON protocols that make these networks dynamic.
PREREQUISITES
A basic knowledge of the principles of digital transmission is required.
